Here’s one of the more stylish and brilliant shipping container homes I’ve seen. Not only is it fashionably frugal – since shipping containers sell for a song, but this one is as cheerful as a bright red metal lunchbox.
The brilliant part? This 40 foot shipping container, which would normally be a very cramped 8 foot wide; travels as a crunched in unit, but…

…once it is in place you would just slide out the compartments to make a spacious and gracious shipping container home.
Each of the slide-out elements is outfitted as …

Here is prefab minimalism for the masses.
The prefab company Habode builds streamlined abodes that suit the on-the-go lifestyle we really live. The detailing is no nonsense, elegant, modern, simple, solidly constructed.

There’s nothing you don’t need, and everything you do need.

This solidly constructed prefab takes only a few hours to put up at the site, from its arrival onsite in a metal cocoon

on the back of a container truck

to its full unfolding as a complete home hours later. That’s because the prefab is fully constructed in the factory,

These gorgeous Solé Power Tiles are designed to capture and convert sunlight into cost-saving electricity without compromising aesthetics. They incorporate UNI-SOLAR thinfilm flexible solar cells shaped into exaggerated traditional clay tile shapes.
The flexible “triple-junction” solar cells absorb a comparatively broader range of the sun’s rays than conventional modules, allowing them to generate electricity for a longer period of time each day. They “wake up earlier and stay up later”, than other solar cell devices.
They are actually pretty effective, too:
The tiles are rated at 1 KW per 200 sq. feet, which …

MOSS SUND Architects and Fig Forty created this gorgeous (and highly effective: 100 gallon!) rainwater harvester because they were disappointed with the aesthetics of the rainwater harvesting options that they were seeing. This is not only sturdy and beautifully designed but it is in it for the long haul.
There is something inexplicably jarring about taking a truly sustainable concept such as rainwater harvesting but then solving it with some kind of temporary plastic barrel –as is so often the case. We all need to add rainwater harvesting in the West. …
